Selangor & Putrajaya

Located on the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia, the state of Selangor occupies some 125,000 square km and offers many fascinating and scenic destinations. Outside its cities, Selangor is adorned with lush green vegetation that varies with the landscape and topography – from the coastal mangroves and verdant tropical rainforest right down to the charming fishing villages that dot the coastline. Places of interest are easily accessible in Selangor. The public transportation makes it easy to move around from one place to another. Visitors would enjoy the contrast of the urban concrete jungle of Kuala Lumpur, where all roads lead to Selangor and its many natural wonders that awaits them.

Putrajaya was planned and developed as the new administrative capital of Malaysia in the late 1990s. As a young capital, Putrajaya may not have the character and soul of the great cities of the world yet, but it is well on its way there with innovative architecture, community-centric town planning and long term ambitions. What visitors see today is a far cry from the time when the area was known as Prang Besar, when rubber and palm oil plantations dominated the terrain. In the late 1990s, work began to transform the estate into the glossy administrative capital envisioned by then-Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. It was to be his legacy for Malaysia, but at the time, the city was conceived for a more practical reason - to relieve the urban congestion that was slowly choking Kuala Lumpur. Today, Putrajaya is a majestic city fitting of its role as the new centre of the Malaysian government.
